Imagine the roar of engines. Picture small aircraft taking flight. Think of students honing their skills. That was once a familiar scene here at Behala Airport. The Ministry of Civil Aviation wants to ease pressure on the main Kolkata airport. Their plan involves expanding the runway at Behala Airport to 4,500 feet. This expansion could transform Behala Airport into a commercial hub.
Close your eyes. Imagine smaller commercial flights taking off from here. Think of the convenience for travelers. It could bring new life to the area around Behala Airport.
But there were also helicopter services. Pawan Hans once operated flights from Behala Airport. These helicopters flew to Durgapur, Malda, and Santiniketan. Sadly, this service was suspended. Now, no commercial helicopter service is available. However, the dream of a revitalized Behala Airport persists.
