West Houston Chinese Church

What if I told you that the West Houston Chinese Church wasn’t always known by that name? In 1991, a group of forty families from the Houston Chinese Church felt a calling. They embarked on a journey of faith, led by Pastor Calvin Wong, to establish a new church on the west side of Houston. This new church, initially named West Houston Chinese Church, would become a beacon of faith for the Chinese community. Over the next three decades, under Pastor David Hsu’s leadership, the West Houston Chinese Church blossomed. The church thrived, not just in numbers, but also in its mission. They planted seeds of faith, leading to the establishment of Katy Christian Community Church, Access Church, and New Hope Christian Church in the Woodlands. The West Houston Chinese Church, true to its name, initially served predominantly the Chinese-speaking community. However, over time, the church opened its arms wider. It embraced people from all walks of life, regardless of their ethnicity, creating a beautiful tapestry of faith and cultural diversity. This shift in inclusivity led to a significant change. In late 2023, the church, with the support of its members, adopted a new name: West Houston Christian Church. This name change reflected their evolved identity, a testament to their commitment to welcoming everyone into God’s embrace. The West Houston Christian Church stands today as a symbol of growth, faith, and inclusivity. It’s a testament to the enduring power of faith and community, a beacon of hope, and an embodiment of the evolving face of faith in the heart of Houston.
