Gazing upon Changseong Middle School, one might initially overlook its vibrant history. This unassuming building holds stories of students and teachers, dreams realized and challenges overcome. Changseong Middle School’s story begins in 2017. It was formed from the merger of three existing schools: Changseong Girls’ Middle School, Changseong Middle School, and Yeongseong Girls’ Middle School. This merger brought together 512 students and 20 classes, creating a new, unified learning community.
Changseong Middle School is located in Seongnam City, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, at 400 Sujeong-ro, Sanseong-dong. Its motto embodies the school’s philosophy: “Be diligent in character, sincere in attitude, and persevering in action.” The school crest is a combination of the letters C and S for “Changseong,” with the S stylized to resemble a soaring bird, symbolizing high aspirations. The central image is a circle, which represents unity and harmony.
The history of the predecessor schools provides further insight into Changseong Middle School’s heritage. Changseong Middle School, one of the original schools, was established in 1979 with 21 classes. By 2017, it had celebrated its 36th anniversary and educated over 15,119 students. Changseong Girls’ Middle School also began in 1979 with 21 classes and had educated over 14,401 students by its 36th anniversary in 2017. Lastly, Yeongseong Girls’ Middle School, established in 1985 with 18 classes, had seen 8,868 students graduate by its 30th anniversary in 2017. These three schools, each with its own unique history, combined to form the modern Changseong Middle School.
In 2018, the newly established Changseong Middle School boasted 181 students across its six grades. The school continued to grow. In 2022, Changseong Middle School’s third principal was appointed, marking a new chapter in its leadership. Today, Changseong Middle School thrives as a vital part of the Seongnam community. It provides a nurturing learning environment where students are encouraged to achieve their full potential. The school offers various extracurricular activities, including clubs, sports, and arts programs. These activities contribute to a well-rounded education, fostering students’ talents and interests.
