Hội dòng Mến Thánh giá Xuân Lộc

Hidden within the heart of Ho Chi Minh City lies the Hội dòng Mến Thánh giá Xuân Lộc. Its story began far from this bustling metropolis. In 1954, a group of nuns, originally from Haiphong in North Vietnam, journeyed south. They settled in Hố Nai, Đồng Nai province, carrying with them a deep devotion to their faith and a desire to continue their religious life. They sought to establish a new community, grounded in the spirit of the Lovers of the Holy Cross. The Hộ dòng Mến Thánh giá Xuân Lộc’s roots trace back to various apostolic communities from Haiphong. These included Nam Am, Liễu Dinh, Kép Sắt, and Yên Trì. In 1959, under the guidance of Bishop Simon Hòa Nguyễn Văn Hiền, a Convent was established at Bắc Hải Parish in Hố Nai. This marked a significant step in the formal organization of the community. The year 1963 brought further development. The community, with the support of Archbishop Paul Nguyễn Văn Bình, adopted the rule of the Lovers of the Holy Cross of Phát Diệm. It officially became known as the Hộ dòng Mến Thánh giá Hải Phòng. The nuns underwent training at the Phát Diệm congregation, solidifying their practices and commitment. Their first vows were taken at Phát Diệm the following year. The tumultuous events of 1975 marked a turning point. The fall of Saigon scattered the Hộ dòng Mến Thánh giá Hải Phòng once again. The nuns found themselves adapting to new economic realities. They bravely sought work in unfamiliar regions, demonstrating their resilience and unwavering faith. The community reorganized in Xuân Lộc, Đồng Nai. This led to Archbishop Paul Nguyễn Văn Bình formally recognizing the community as independent in 1976. It fell under the jurisdiction of Bishop Đa Minh Nguyễn Văn Lãng of Xuân Lộc Diocese. The community’s journey continued through name changes. It became the Mến Thánh Giá Bắc Hải-Xuân Lộc in 1995. Finally, in 2010, it adopted its present name: Hộ dòng Mến Thánh giá Xuân Lộc. This reflects its deep connection to the Xuân Lộc Diocese. The Hộ dòng Mến Thánh giá Xuân Lộc stands as a testament to the enduring strength of faith. It also shows the unwavering dedication of its members. From a small group of displaced nuns, the community has flourished. It continues to serve the people of Vietnam.
