“Imagine a world where innovation takes flight” echoes through the corridors of time right here at the Henri Coandă House Plaque. This plaque marks more than just a building. It commemorates a legacy of Romanian innovation. It honors Henri Coandă.

Henri Coandă was a flight pioneer. He discovered the Coandă effect of fluidics. This house built in 1910 stands as a testament to his father’s prominence and his own burgeoning genius.

The Henri Coandă House itself has a rich history. General Constantin Coandă commissioned the house. He was Henri’s father. He was also a former prime minister of Romania in 1918. Ernest Doneaud, a Romanian architect of French origin designed the house. Gregoire Marc assisted him. Construction spanned from April to September 1910. The house includes a ground floor, an upper floor, a loft and a basement.

In 1969 the Coandă family donated the house to the Romanian state specifically to the Romanian Academy. Their sole condition was that it become a museum honoring Henri Coandă and Constantin Coandă. The family wanted to ensure the house remain a tribute to their legacy.

Sadly this vision was not immediately realized. Henri Coandă passed away in 1972. Five years later the communist state seized the house from the Academy. Objects from the Henri Coandă Museum were moved. They went to the Dimitrie Leonida Technical Museum. These items included patents models paintings medals diplomas and letters. They remain largely unexhibited due to space constraints.

After 1990 the Academy tried to reclaim part of the Henri Coandă House. They wanted to regain at least the upper floor. Unfortunately they lost legal battles with RAAPPS.

Today the Henri Coandă House stands as a historical monument. It is classified as B-II-m-B-18334. The Henri Coandă House Plaque reminds us of the man and his family.

Now an international airport bears his name. Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport is Romania’s busiest airport. It serves as headquarters for TAROM the country’s national airline.

The Henri Coandă House Plaque serves as a reminder of a visionary. It connects us to a legacy of scientific exploration. It embodies the spirit of Romanian ingenuity. Take a moment to appreciate this place. It’s a quiet tribute to a life that forever changed our world.
