Cimetière de Phalempin contains the remains of over 40 casualties from World War I. These soldiers died between 1915 and 1918. The German army buried them. There are also some casualties from World War II. In total 44 identified casualties of both World Wars rest here.

Albert Hermant rests here in the military section. He was a resistance fighter killed during the Liberation in 1944. He died near the forest. The Cimetière de Phalempin is located not far from the church. The Commonwealth burials are at the far end. They are almost opposite the entrance. The plot covers 191 square metres.

Phalempin itself has a history stretching back centuries. It appears in records from the 11th century. The village was occupied during World War I. A local resistant Achille Pèchon was shot by the Germans. The village was freed on September 2nd 1944.

The forest near Cimetière de Phalempin was once a naturalist hotspot. It was rich in biodiversity. Sadly a highway construction and pollution reduced the biodiversity. Yet the forest remains an important part of the regional green belt.
