According to local folklore the pagoda has interesting origins. In the late 18th century Chinese merchants came to Phu Yen. They traded goods. These merchants built Thanh Luong Pagoda. Its purpose was worship. It sought peace. Over the years the Chinese community vanished. The pagoda fell into disrepair. After liberation the population grew. My Quang fishing village was expanding. Locals restored the pagoda. It became a pilgrimage site. Many tourists explore Phu Yen.

The pagoda is located in My Quang Nam hamlet. It is in An Chan commune Tuy An district Phu Yen. Thanh Luong Pagoda is about 10km north of Tuy Hoa city center. It only takes 5 to 10 minutes to reach famous spots. Ganh Ong Ganh Ba and Bai Xep are nearby.

To capture beautiful photos visit in the morning. 8 to 10 AM is best. Late afternoon is also good. The sunlight is less intense then. You can explore the grounds comfortably.

At the entrance is a serene Maitreya Buddha statue. On the pagoda’s left is a lotus pond. It boasts vibrant beauty. Its water is clear.

You can spot artfully arranged rock formations. The ancient-style triple gate has brownish-red tiled roofs. Old trees hide the pagoda. It creates a simple and peaceful atmosphere.

Local villagers tell a mysterious story. The statue is Quan The Am Bo Tat. That is Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva. It drifted ashore from the sea. It washed up on Hon Dua Beach. It wasn’t fully intact. But the standing posture was recognizable. Locals organized a ceremony. They brought the Buddha statue to the pagoda.

After enshrining the Buddha statue the abbot began construction. Structures enhanced the landscape. Many foreign tourists visit. They learn about its origins in Phu Yen.

Remember when visiting this spiritual site to dress modestly. Avoid revealing clothing. Women can wear dresses that are respectful. Limit phone use in the main temple area. Don’t take photos with your back to the Buddha statue. Speak softly. Maintain the peaceful atmosphere. Do not eat drink or litter.

If you meet monks greet them respectfully. Press your palms together. Say “A di da Phat” or “bach thay”. Address yourself as “con”. This brings merits to your visit.
