What if a stadium could tell stories? Not with words, of course, but with the echoes of cheers, the whispers of history, and the enduring spirit of a city. Here at Tad Gormley Stadium, nestled in the heart of City Park, New Orleans, you’re standing on ground that has witnessed incredible feats, heartbreaking losses, and the unwavering resilience of a community. Tad Gormley Stadium isn’t just a collection of bleachers and a grassy field. This stadium, originally known as City Park Stadium, was a beacon of hope, built in the midst of the Great Depression by the Works Progress Administration, a testament to the belief in the power of community and the enduring spirit of this city. Completed in 1937, Tad Gormley Stadium has seen it all. From legendary high school football rivalries that packed the stands to capacity, to the electrifying energy of a World Cup tune-up match between Honduras and the Tampa Bay Rowdies. In 1957, the stadium was renamed in honor of Francis Thomas “Tad” Gormley, a man who dedicated his life to sports in New Orleans, serving as a coach, trainer, and official for numerous schools and athletic organizations. His legacy lives on in every roar of the crowd and every athlete who steps onto Reggie Bush Field. Even Hurricane Katrina, which devastated much of New Orleans, couldn’t extinguish the spirit of Tad Gormley Stadium. The stadium stood strong, a symbol of the city’s resilience. The very field we stand before was restored thanks to the generosity of New Orleans Saints’ very own, Reggie Bush. Today, Tad Gormley Stadium continues to be a place where memories are made.
