Wolves once roamed these lands. Their howls echoed through forests between Monluè and Milan. This is Monluè a district with a fascinating past.

Monluè’s story begins in the Middle Ages. It was known as Mons Luparium. This Latin name means mountain or hill of the wolves. Imagine a landscape different from today’s scenery. The area was probably hillier back then.

The Humiliati religious order arrived in the 13th century. They established an abbey. These friars reclaimed the land. Slowly a small rural town grew around the abbey. Monluè started to flourish.

The Humiliati order faced suppression in 1571. Their possessions were seized by the Jesuits. The abbey transformed into a farmhouse. The Church of Saint Lawrence was modified in 1584. It was later restored in 1877.

In the early 20th century the Monluè complex went to the Pio Albergo Trivulzio. This was a Milanese humanitarian institution. Today Cascina Monluè belongs to the city of Milan. The Church of Saint Lawrence remains consecrated. It is still in use.

Monluè differs from other Milanese districts. It avoided industrialization. Agricultural activities have also declined. Its population decreased over time. This is unlike other areas around Milan.

Today Monluè retains its charm. It is a residential district with a rural feel. Wide green spaces surround it. Monluè Park is a notable example. It offers an escape from the city.

The park covers a large area. It features meadows and old mills. It owes its name to the wolves. This picturesque beauty comes from its history. It was once a Cistercian monastic centre.

The Monluè Park is a grange. It includes a central building. The park runs along the Lambro river. Lawns and groves dot the landscape.

The Church of San Lorenzo stands as a reminder of the past. It is built in Romanesque-Gothic style. Ancient rural buildings also remain.

When you visit Monluè you step back in time. You experience a place shaped by wolves friars and farmers. It is a unique corner of Milan. Monluè offers a tranquil retreat. Its history whispers through the trees.
