Ready to explore a church with a fascinating past? I’m excited to tell you the story of The Congregational Church of Weston. This church is more than just a building. It is a living tradition.
The Congregational Church of Weston’s story began nearly sixty years ago. It started “with a trust born of God”. For many years it was “a church without walls”. Members built their faith community in homes. They worshiped at Country School.
Fifty years ago a simple edifice was built. It was designed to fit into the natural surroundings. The Congregational Church of Weston was founded in the tradition of New England Congregationalism. It retains that character. The church also embraces membership in the progressive social justice spirit of the United Church of Christ. Early emphasis on caring relationships and warm fellowship still characterizes the church today.
In 2019 The Congregational Church of Weston began a collaboration. They partnered with Wellesley Village Church. Wellesley Village Church is only five miles away in Wellesley MA. This relationship allows them to offer members resources of a large church. It allows them to maintain the intimacy of their setting. They also enjoy the services of Wellesley Village’s Pastoral Residents. These residents lead worship in their community. Other members of Wellesley Village clergy also participate.
The Congregational Church of Weston has a clear purpose. They are a progressive multi-generational Christian community. They are inspired and sustained by meaningful worship and practice. They are called by God to serve neighbors. They strive to improve the world for all of God’s children.
The church provides an environment of hope and purpose. This environment is grounded in Christian belief. It is based on God’s grace and mercy. They support and nurture members of all ages. The church equips themselves and neighbors. They want to develop skills for constructive discourse. The Congregational Church of Weston engages the community. They have authentic conversations about challenging situations. They discuss families communities the nation and the world. They encourage constructive responses to these exchanges. The church assures that future generations can flourish. They achieve this by being good stewards of God’s creation.
The Congregational Church of Weston is rooted in the United Church of Christ. This heritage includes the Pilgrims. They believed there is “yet more light and truth to break forth from God’s Word.” This tradition nurtures an active engaging and lively faith. The UCC Board of Directors affirmed statements in October 2016. God is still speaking.
The purpose statement comes from the Gospel of Matthew. It is to love God with all our heart mind soul and strength. The statement also says to love our neighbor as ourselves. The vision statement is simple. United in Christ’s love a just world for all.
The mission statement is powerful. United in Spirit and inspired by God’s grace they welcome all. They love all and seek justice for all. The Congregational Church of Weston stands as a beacon of faith community and progress. Its history is a testament to its enduring values.
