This isn’t just any university. The Technische Universität Nürnberg UTN is Bavaria’s first new public university since 1978 a bold step into the future of higher education. The UTN’s campus a sprawling 37 hectares in Lichtenreuth is still under construction. However the first building Cube One is complete. It’s a striking example of sustainable architecture. Built with recycled concrete and timber it boasts a photovoltaic array and green facades. This building houses the administration and some central university functions.

Despite the controversies the UTN is forging ahead. It opened its doors to its first eight students in October 2023. The master’s program in AI and Robotics was the first to launch. A new master’s program in Human and Artificial Intelligence is planned for 2025. The UTN aims to eventually accommodate 6000 students and 2000 staff.
