East Macedonia American Baptist Church stands as a testament to their faith. The oral history suggests First Union Baptist Church, alongside West Point, Mount Pilgrim in Galveston, Pleasant Hill in Houston, and New Light in San Antonio, were among the first. Other churches likely existed, shrouded in the mists of time. This network of faith played a crucial role in shaping the religious landscape of Texas. The association’s first moderator, Rev. B. J. Hall, also served as pastor of First Union Baptist Church. It is said that Rev. Hall and his family were instrumental in organizing several churches within the association, his influence spanning from 1870 to 1899.
