Mountains like Kiyama and Gongenyama add to the scenery. To the northeast and east, the Sangun mountain range rises. Mount Homan is part of this range. It stands 800 to 900 meters high. Chikushino sits about 15 kilometers south of Fukuoka City. It is also about 20 kilometers north of Kurume.

Agencies like the tax office and police station oversee the region. Wide-area services such as water supply cooperate closely within the district.

For education, Chikushino has numerous public schools. The city runs 11 elementary schools and 5 junior high schools. The Fukuoka Prefectural Board of Education manages two high schools. There are also two private high schools. The prefecture also runs two special schools for students with disabilities.
