This grand statue, standing at 22 feet tall and made of Italian Ravazzoni marble, depicts Columbus with a globe showcasing the New World and a chart of the then-uncharted sea. The statue’s base is adorned with intricate details, including medallions depicting Columbus’s landing and the coats of arms of Italy, the United States, and Genoa. The Christopher Columbus Statue has been a source of both pride and contention.
