What if I told you that hidden in Hedeland Nature Park, not far from Glade Anders, lies a magical being? This is Månemor. She is not just any sculpture, but Thomas Dambo’s 100th troll. Månemor, or Moon Mother, stands as a testament to Dambo’s vision of transforming trash into treasure.

Månemor is more than just a wooden figure. She embodies Dambo’s mission to show the world the value of recycling. Dambo uses discarded materials like shipping pallets and old furniture. He wants people to see trash as something beautiful and beneficial.

Finding Månemor is an adventure in itself. You have to wander into the forest north of the ski hill. From the car park at Tranemosevej 8, it’s about a 2 km walk. Along the way, you might even encounter her son, Happy Anders. Remember that the coordinates only lead to the nearest parking spot. The exact location of Månemor remains a delightful secret.

Thomas Dambo’s trolls are a super good idea. They bring great delight to many people. They also provide a fantastic day out with grandchildren. First, you find Happy Donald then Mother Moon. These fantastic trolls hide more surprises if you study them closely. They provide a wonderful outdoor life and challenges for both children and adults. Combined with some provisions, it doesn’t get any better. And here, pretty much, everyone can be involved.

Dating back to Norse mythology, trolls were often seen as ferocious creatures. Thomas Dambo reimagines them as beings of light and love. They care deeply for the natural world. His trolls connect us to the land and our ancestors.

Thomas Dambo’s journey began in Odense in 1979. He grew up on a collective farm. His teacher encouraged students to use everything. Nothing should be wasted. Dambo reconfigured his childhood diagnosis of DAMP and the artist Dambo was born.

His first sculptures were part of a project called Happy City Birds. Because graffiti was illegal, he created a series of 250 birdhouses. They were made from scrap wood and donated paint. Dambo embarked on a 2-week tour of Denmark on his Christiania bike to set them all up.

In 2023, Månemor was part of an international treasure hunt. People solved riddles in troll language to find her location. This connected people from all around the world.

Dambo’s trolls are not always permanent. The materials break down over time. He believes this is how it should be. He wants to ignite a spark within people. The magic has now been passed on.

Månemor is a reminder of the beauty that can be found in unexpected places. She embodies the spirit of recycling and the power of imagination. As you stand before Månemor, take a moment to appreciate the artistry and the message she represents. Let her inspire you to see the world with new eyes and to find value in everything around you.
