The Observatorul Astronomic Bosianu wasn’t always an observatory. Initially it was Casa Bosianu. Constantin Bosianu commissioned it. The architect Luigi Lipizer designed this neo-gothic building. It was built between 1853 and 1859. Parcul Carol did not exist back then. Bosianu had a swift career. He studied in Anvers and Paris. He became a judge. Cuza appointed him to the High Court of Justice. He was a vice president. He then became Prime Minister in 1865. He served for almost five months. Later he became a senator. He was also president of the Senate in 1879. Bosianu was an honorary member of the Romanian Academy.

After Bosianu’s death the state took over. The government used it briefly. The Meteorological Service of Romania was also located here. Inside there were wooden doors with tricolor stained glass. It also held a library and government-era furniture.

In 1908 the Observatorul Meteorologic și Astronomic was established. Spiru Haret signed the decree. He was the Minister of Cults and Public Instruction. Later it became the Observatorul Astronomic al Academiei Romane. Casa Bosianu became part of it. It housed one of the most important specialized libraries.

The Observatorul Astronomic Bosianu also has detailed architectural plans. They date back to 1946. Ilie Vera C-tin Negrescu Tevel J and Zanel Silvan created them. These plans include perspectives interior details and site plans. There are also facade details and tower sections. Exterior ornament details are present. These drawings show the north-east and south-east facades. The plans also depict the roof basement and ground floor.

Today the Observatorul Astronomic Bosianu stands. It serves as a reminder of Bucharest’s scientific heritage. Its beautiful architecture and history connect us to the stars.
