Journey with me to Rajokri, a village steeped in history and nestled near the Gurgaon border on NH-8. Rajokri, once known as “Harjokri,” is more than just a census town in New Delhi. It holds the distinction of being one of Delhi’s oldest villages. Rajokri in 2001 boasted a population of 12,758. By 2011, this number had grown to 19,148, showcasing Rajokri’s continuous growth and vibrancy. As you stand here, imagine the generations who have walked these very paths. Rajokri is deeply rooted in tradition, primarily inhabited by the Yadav caste, predominantly of the Jhagdoliya gotra. The spiritual heart of Rajokri beats within its temples. The most renowned are the Kholi Baba Temple and the revered Lord Shiva Temple/Mahadev Mandir. These sacred spaces offer a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of this ancient village. Education also thrives in Rajokri. From the recently established Rajokri Institute of Technology (RIT) to the Air Force Station and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Rajokri nurtures a thirst for knowledge. Government schools for both girls and boys, along with several other educational institutions, contribute to Rajokri’s growing prominence as a center of learning. Rajokri holds a strategic position as the first village of New Delhi on NH-8 when traveling from Gurgaon. While the Acharya Narendra Dev College of Delhi University was initially planned for Rajokri, it ultimately found its home elsewhere. Today, Rajokri is known for its luxurious and expensive farmhouses, including prestigious schemes like The Green, Westend Greens, and Grand Westend Greens. These opulent residences speak to Rajokri’s transformation into a sought-after location. Within Rajokri, the Lohmod Chowk area stands out with its clean roads and inviting parks. Its connection to the Rajokri protected forest further enhances its appeal, attracting numerous tourists. Sadly, unauthorized encroachment and construction pose a constant threat to these natural treasures. Rajokri’s story intertwines with twelve brethren villages, eleven of Yadavs and one of Jat. Among these are Sarhol, the chief village, along with Kapashera, Dundahera, Molahera, Sikanderpur, Nathupur, Chakkarpur, Wazirabad, Kanhai, Samalka, and Bijwasan. Rajokri, a village with a rich past, stands at the crossroads of tradition and progress, beckoning visitors to explore its unique tapestry of history and modern life.
