Covenant Community Church began humbly. It started with a small meeting of Christians in 1928. They gathered at the Gun Club of Silver Subdivision in Redford Township. The congregation then met at Roosevelt School on Aubrey in 1931. By 1933, they found a location at an implement shed. This shed had a notorious metal roof. Part-time ministers served the church in those early years.
In 1938, Covenant Community Church was officially organized. February 13 marked the formation of a non-denominational community testimony. John L. Drummond was ordained in 1939. He became the first full-time pastor.
The first building project finished in 1940. It was a basement auditorium. The church supported its first missionaries in 1942. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hammond were the first. Pioneer Girls started in 1944. Mrs. Ann Wilcox McDonald founded it.
Construction continued. The basement of the present church was built in 1947. The sanctuary was dedicated in 1949. Boys Brigade started in 1950. The south educational wing was completed in 1951. A third floor was added to the south wing in 1954. Sunday School attendance peaked in 1955. It reached 1,718 attendees.
The north wing construction finished in 1958. Covenant Community Church celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1963. An annex was added to the sanctuary in 1966. The library was established in 1968. Virginia Nelson served as chairman.
Rev. John L. Drummond retired in 1973. He was given the title Pastor Emeritus. Rev. H. Dalton Myers was called as pastor in 1974. A ramp and fellowship annex were completed in 1978. By 1983, the church was financially debt-free.
The sanctuary and educational units were updated. The remodeled church was dedicated in 1986. A new missionary map was installed in the atrium in 1987. Covenant Community Church celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1988. Church archives began in the library.
A fire destroyed the ministry house on Centralia in 1992. The McIntyre ministry house on Norborn was given as a gift in 1995. The “melt the mortgage” project began. The church celebrated its 60th anniversary in 1998. It was financially debt-free. The remodeling mortgage was retired. Pastor and Wanda Myers celebrated 25 years of service in 1999.
The Suburban Detroit Missions Consortium celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2000. Expansion and reconstruction of the north parking lot occurred in 2003. Pastor H. Dalton Myers retired in 2004. A new sanctuary roof was constructed. Pastor Cole T. Westwood was called as pastor in 2005. Pastor Westwood resigned in 2017. Pastor Jay Barsaleau was called as pastor. Pastor Jay Barsaleau retired in 2022.
