In 1983, a spark ignited in Dublin’s cultural heart. A group of artists, fueled by passion and vision, established the Temple Bar Gallery & Studios. They transformed a former shirt factory into a haven for creativity. Temple Bar Gallery & Studios quickly became a vital hub for artists. The renovated building, designed by McCullough Mulvin architects, officially opened in October 1994. It houses a contemporary art gallery and thirty artist studios. Temple Bar Gallery & Studios champions Irish artists at pivotal moments in their careers while introducing international artists to Irish audiences. The gallery features five exhibitions annually, often showcasing solo exhibitions. It also hosts the acclaimed Dublin Art Book Fair. Temple Bar Gallery & Studios fosters a vibrant community. It offers subsidized studio spaces, providing artists with valuable resources to develop their work. The studios offer various membership options, including six or three-year memberships and one-year associate memberships or project studios. A rigorous review process ensures the quality and commitment of the artists involved. From exhibitions like “The Living and the Dead” by Mark Swords to “Huddle Tests” by Rhona Byrne, Temple Bar Gallery & Studios has presented a diverse range of contemporary art. The gallery embraces experimentation and pushes boundaries, reflected in exhibitions like “Temple Bar Gallery + Studios are Dead.” This unique space has fostered the growth of countless artists and continues to enrich Dublin’s cultural landscape.
