Didn’t expect that the Church of God in Denver started so far away. It all began with dedicated followers of Christ. These believers lived in western Michigan in 1858. They emphasized the second coming of Christ.
Joined by a church in Marion Iowa in 1863, the movement grew. The Church of God’s influence expanded eastward and into the central United States. A key factor was “The Hope of Israel”. “The Hope of Israel” also had a journey. It moved from Michigan to Iowa and then to Missouri. Eventually, it arrived in Colorado. It underwent several name changes and is now the “Bible Advocate”. For over 150 years, this flagship publication has been in circulation. You can even find it online.
Today, the General Conference includes about 235 local congregations. These are spread throughout the United States and Canada. There are affiliated conferences and churches in 40 countries. This creates a worldwide fellowship of over 200000 members. Each national church is autonomous. They regard each other as sister conferences. The Church’s International Ministerial Congress coordinates fellowship and dialogue. It also promotes evangelism and doctrinal unity.
