Did you know that the Bright Light Faith Worship Center’s story begins with a small group of twenty-two faithful souls? They bravely stepped out in faith from another church. This was in January 1970. Their leader Reverend Freddie Lee Brown guided them. They sought a place to worship. They found a new home at Lighthouse Temple. This small group organized a Baptist mission. They needed a name. Many members were involved. They chose “Greater Bright Light Missionary Baptist Church”. The name was approved unanimously. Reverend Brown became the first pastor. The church needed official status. So on November 10 1970 it became an official organization. This was recognized by New York State law. The church needed a building. On December 23 1970 a 40 by 100 foot building was purchased. It was at 1603 St Johns Place. The congregation worked hard. They prepared the building for worship. They had faith God would provide. Over time the church grew. They improved their building. In 1975 Reverend Brown left for another church in Ohio. Reverend H DeVore Chapman became the pastor in 1976. He led the church to further growth. In June 1990 the church moved to its current location at 1320 Sutter Avenue in Brooklyn. The mortgage on the old building was paid off. Pastor Chapman oversaw many achievements. Membership increased. Twenty-one ministries were organized. The church’s administration was computerized. A leading daycare center was established. There was also an after school program and a senior citizens program. The church ministered to the homeless. They provided bi-weekly outreach services for the emotionally challenged. They signed a multimillion-dollar contract for home healthcare with New York City. This was the “Greater Bright Light Home Health Care Agency”. The Bright Light Faith Worship Center has a rich and vibrant history. It demonstrates unwavering faith and dedication to serving its community. The church continues to grow. It continues to serve. Its legacy is built on faith and community. So stand here with me and feel the enduring spirit of the Bright Light Faith Worship Center. Reflect on the journey of faith and service. This is a place where lives have been transformed. This is a place where souls are important.
