Envision flags of Belgian hearts fluttering from its facade. That was the Brusilia building some years ago. This tower before you is more than just a residence. It’s a landmark etched in Brussels’ skyline.

The Brusilia has a history. It stands tall in Schaerbeek next to Josaphat Park. Jacques Cuisinier designed it. Construction spanned from 1970 to 1974.

For many years, the Brusilia reigned as Belgium’s tallest all-residential building. It reached a height of 100 meters with 35 stories. That is until the UP-Site tower appeared in 2014.

Did you know the Brusilia nearly had a twin? The original plan included another tower. The foundations were even laid. The 1973 oil crisis halted those plans. A smaller building eventually occupied the space. It features a different architectural style.

From the Brusilia’s upper floors, the views are amazing. On a clear day, you can see Antwerp. Some even claim to spot the Doel Nuclear Power Station. Facing another direction lies Josaphat Park. The North district is visible too. You might glimpse the Atomium and even the Royal Castle of Laken.

Before the Brusilia, a different structure stood here. It was the Sports Palace of Schaerbeek. Mick Jagger once graced its stage. Later, it was torn down.

In September 2024, the Brusilia celebrated its 50th anniversary. A Tower Run was organized. Participants climbed 34 floors. They earned a breathtaking view. Vertical dance performances took place on the facade. A traditional open-air cafe added to the festivities.

The Brusilia stands near Avenue Louis Bertrand and Avenue Voltaire. It is also close to the Neptunium swimming pool. This location makes it a central point in Schaerbeek.

The Brusilia isn’t just bricks and mortar. It is a symbol of Brussels’ architectural ambition. A testament to dreams both realized and deferred. It reflects the city’s ever-evolving story. Take a moment to appreciate its curved form. Consider the views it offers and the history it holds. The Brusilia is a unique piece of Brussels.
