Father Jacquet a man of great culture and artistic sensibility appointed the young architect Adolphe Guyonnet. Guyonnet was tasked with designing a church capable of holding 600 people. The church needed to connect directly with the rectory. A large well-lit meeting room was to be built in the basement. The building’s Romanesque design was inspired by the simplicity of early Christian churches. Guyonnet focused on clean lines and harmonious volumes. He ensured that the interior and exterior designs blended seamlessly. The artists’ decorations echoed this architectural spirit.
The \u00c9glise Saint-Paul wasn’t finished in a hurry. Construction began in 1913 and the inauguration took place in 1915. However the decorative work continued until 1926. Even Father Jacquet’s death in 1919 didn’t stop the project. His brother Anthony took over ensuring the vision was realized. Father Jacquet brought together a team of talented artists.
