Bronze gleams beneath the Turkish sun. Here, in the heart of Ankara, stands the Nursultan Nazarbayev Anıtı. A steadfast figure, he seems to observe the city’s ebb and flow. This statue is more than just a tribute to a man. It embodies the deep-rooted relationship between Turkey and Kazakhstan. Unveiled in 2010, the Nursultan Nazarbayev Anıtı was a gesture of reciprocity. It mirrors a monument to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, erected in Kazakhstan’s capital just the year before. The location, Gençlik Parkı, is no coincidence. It sits on a boulevard named after Atatürk himself, a testament to the mutual respect between these nations. The sculptor, Giursel Chataltepe, has captured Nazarbayev in a formal pose, seated and over life-size at 2.6 meters. The bronze figure sits atop a 2.5-meter pedestal, crafted from red granite and etched with inscriptions in black granite. The Nursultan Nazarbayev Anıtı stands as a symbol of enduring brotherhood between two nations, a testament to the power of diplomacy etched in bronze and stone.
