How about we step away from Milan’s urban rush for a moment? Oasi Le Foppe awaits us a sanctuary born from earth’s wounds. Here, where clay was once quarried nature staged a remarkable comeback.

Oasi Le Foppe is a testament to resilience. It showcases how ecosystems can reclaim and transform industrial landscapes. This natural area spans approximately 11 hectares. It lies west of Trezzo sull’Adda.

Imagine this former clay quarry now teeming with life. Ponds glisten surrounded by thick forest. The Oasi Le Foppe owes its vitality to constant water. Rainfall throughout the year ensures rich biodiversity.

Over 100 bird species call this oasis home. Keep an eye out for the Sparrowhawk. Listen for the drumming of the Great Spotted Woodpecker. The Eurasian Green Woodpecker also resides here. You might even catch a glimpse of the elusive Eurasian Wryneck or hear the call of the Common Cuckoo.

Tawny Owls silently patrol the night skies of Oasi Le Foppe. During the day Little Egrets and Cattle Egrets stalk the water’s edge. Blackcaps and Firecrests flit among the branches. The delightful song of the European Serin fills the air.

The Oasi Le Foppe is located within the Adda Nord Park. It encompasses roughly 5.5 hectares. The area’s spontaneous recovery reflects conditions typical of the mid-Po Valley. Wetlands, forests and shrubs create an explosion of floral diversity.

These wetlands host plants that thrive in perpetually wet conditions. Sedges, rushes, cattails, irises and duckweed carpet the water’s surface. Keep an eye out for rarer species. The marsh seedbox adds a splash of color. The floating fern drifts gracefully. The carnivorous plant with yellow flowers also awaits its prey.

Black locust trees dominate the northern and southern sections of Oasi Le Foppe. The central area largely closed to the public offers a haven for white willows. Black poplars, aspens and cherry trees also thrive. A rich undergrowth of shrubs completes the landscape.

This remarkable flora supports a vibrant community of invertebrates. Look closely and you might spot one of the 17 recorded species of diurnal butterflies. Odonata and Hymenoptera also buzz about their daily tasks.

Oasi Le Foppe is more than just a nature reserve. It is a living laboratory. It’s a place where we can witness the power of nature. It reminds us of our capacity for renewal. As we leave this oasis remember that even from industrial scars life can flourish again.
