Did you know that the Ev. Felsen-Kirchengemeinde is more than just a place of worship? It is a story of community, resilience, and change. Let’s step back in time to understand its origins.
The Ev. Felsen-Kirchengemeinde’s story has two locations. One is the Apostel-Andreas-Kirche. The other one is the Gemeindezentrum Rollberge.
Originally, the Apostel-Andreas-Kirche served as a community center. It was built between 1936 and 1937. Initially, it was named after Adolf Stoecker. The church was part of the Wittenau village church community.
In 1963, the Apostel-Petrus-Gemeinde took it over. Later in 1969, this congregation split. The newly formed community received the building as their church. They chose the Apostle Andreas as their patron saint.
Fast forward to 2001, the congregations of Apostel Andreas and In den Rollbergen merged. This formed the Ev. Felsen-Kirchengemeinde. The community decided to keep both locations. These were the Gemeindezentrum Rollberge and the church on Eichhorster Weg.
The church building itself had unique architectural features. It resembled the solid houses in the Siedlung Neue Zeit neighborhood. A bell tower stood to the left of the gable. It made the building easily recognizable as a church.
Inside the tower hung two bronze bells. One dates back to the mid-18th century. The other was made by Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock.
The interior featured a flat wooden ceiling. In 1951, it received its key features. The altar shows carved symbols and a crucifix. Sculptor Gross created the relief on the pulpit and the baptismal font. Goldsmith Riffelmacher crafted the silver pieces. These were for Holy Communion. Fritz Kühn, an art smith, made the altar candlesticks. Twelve arched glass windows adorned the space. Margarethe Grosser designed them. Puhl & Wagner manufactured these windows.
In 1961, the church installed an organ made by Walcker.
However, by the end of 2022, the Apostel-Andreas-Kirche was torn down. A daycare center was built on the site.
Today, the Ev. Felsen-Kirchengemeinde continues its work. Its Gemeindezentrum Rollberge is located in Titiseestraße. You can attend a service there every Sunday at 10:45 AM. The Gemeindezentrum Rollberge was established in 1974.
