Picture this. You are standing before Cascina Buttintrocca. Its weathered stones whisper tales of centuries past. This isn’t just a farmhouse. It’s a living testament to a bygone era. Cascina Buttintrocca was once a small community. In 1657 it belonged to the Buttintrocca family. By the mid-1700s it had grown to 38 souls.

Cascina Buttintrocca then fell under the Marquis Febo D’Adda of Milan. Interestingly he received no tribute from the community. There was no local magistrate. The feudal overlord resided in Milan itself. The Cascina’s consul swore an oath to the feud’s administrator the referendary and the magistrate of Lodi.

The community lacked formal representation. A single appointed individual managed its affairs. This was the tenant farmer. Decisions especially concerning public funds required the consent of three additional stakeholders. A chancellor living in Cologno maintained the community records receiving an annual salary of 37 lire. A tax collector elected for three-year terms often served longer.

From at least 1753 Cascina Buttintrocca became a hamlet of Cologno. Imagine the daily life here. The rhythm of agricultural work. The quiet evenings under a star-filled sky. This was a self-sufficient community. Its residents lived and worked the land. They were deeply connected to the rhythm of nature and the seasons.

Cascina Buttintrocca stands as a symbol of resilience. A reflection of a time when small communities flourished. It is a place where history unfolds before your very eyes. Every stone every crack in the walls holds a piece of the past. It reminds us of a time of simpler life. A time of community and shared responsibilities. Today as you stand here before Cascina Buttintrocca consider its enduring legacy.
