The school has seen its share of challenges. In 2004, a bus carrying students and staff to Lightwater Valley theme park crashed. Over fifty students were injured. In 2005, plans were approved for a complete rebuild. This multi-million pound project culminated in a brand new school. The new building, opened in 2008, boasts state-of-the-art facilities for every department. The school’s academic performance has been a point of pride. After a period of scrutiny in 2007, St John Ogilvie High School achieved record-breaking results in 2017. They continued this trend in 2018, 2019, and again in 2022. This remarkable turnaround speaks volumes about the dedication of the staff and students. St John Ogilvie High School also offers unique programs, like a beekeeping course. Students can achieve SCQF level 5 beekeeping certification. This innovative program connects students with nature. It fosters teamwork and environmental awareness.
