Before this vibrant space existed, a simple turnaround lot occupied this land. The original Tula Community Center was part of the Tenochca dorm. It was heavily used. The university’s growth and the rise of technology demanded a better space.
Fast forward to August 2018. The new Tula Community Hall opened after six years of planning. The 9000-square-foot building cost $12 million. It provides students with more space to gather.
Notice the architectural style. It’s SDSU’s iconic Mission Revival. Designers reinterpreted the style. They combined Mission Revival iconography with pure forms. The courtyard building stands out.
Step inside. You will see three conference rooms. Operable partition walls allow for flexibility. They can be used separately. They can combine into one large conference center. Each room opens to the courtyard. This design allows for fresh air. It also creates an ideal pre-function area.
The Tula Community Hall is equipped with modern amenities. Wireless internet is available. Indoor and outdoor speakers enhance events. Projectors with screens and wireless microphones cater to technological needs.
Consider the layout. The 2500-square-foot courtyard provides an outdoor gathering space. A service kitchen supports events. The indoor conference area adapts to different needs. It can be divided into three equal sections.
The Tula Community Hall quickly became a popular spot. Residential-based classes are held here. Seminars, meetings, and events fill the calendar. Even non-residential student groups use the space. Organizations from outside SDSU book the center too.
Cru, a Christian group, uses Tula every Thursday night. Its central location near the dorms is ideal. They welcome students to stop by and see what’s happening.
On-campus residents and staff can use the Tula Community Hall for free. SDSU departments and student organizations pay a fee. Non-SDSU organizations pay a higher rate.
