This Anglican church, part of the Nippon Sei Ko Kai Osaka Diocese, has been a spiritual home for many since its birth in 1959. Originally located in the serene Ishibashi Garden of Ikeda City, the church found its current home here in 1968. The name “Thomas” honors the brother of Jesus, a figure representing doubt and questioning, which the church embraces as part of the journey of faith. Ishibashi Sei Thomas Kyokai is more than just a place of Sunday service. It’s woven into the fabric of the community, offering various activities and outreach programs. It merged with the Uchino Kuri Church in 2022, further strengthening its community bonds. While the merger didn’t change the name, it enriched the congregation. The church believes in the power of the Bible to guide and inspire, inviting everyone to explore its wisdom and find meaning within its verses. They offer programs for all ages, from children’s groups like “JOY” that meet after Sunday services, to youth groups, men’s and women’s groups that meet monthly. They welcome anyone to attend their services, which are held twice on Sunday mornings. Communion is offered, but only to those who have been baptized and confirmed in the Anglican faith. Before partaking, those who have not received these sacraments should cross their arms over their chest as a sign of respect.
