Doesn’t the name Tamoi Tengah just roll off your tongue? Tamoi Tengah is a village in Brunei-Muara District. It is one of the villages in Mukim Tamoi. We are now standing in one of Brunei’s historic water villages.

Let’s dive into the heart of Kampung Tamoi Tengah. This village is part of Kampong Ayer. Kampong Ayer is the traditional floating settlement on the Brunei River. It is near the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.

In 2021, Kampung Tamoi Tengah had a population of 357. This total population lived in an urban area. About 49% were male and 51% were female.

Once, most villagers worked for themselves. They fished or gathered materials. Women were housewives. They also made roofs or trays. Today, many work for the government or in private jobs. Some are self-employed.

Kampung Tamoi Tengah covers just 0.1096 square kilometers. That is approximately 423 square miles. Its postcode is BL2112. Nearby is the Lurong Dalam Village. It is only 0.6 km away. The Awang Semaun Secondary School is about 0.8 km away.

Tamoi includes smaller areas called villages. Two former villages, Limbongan and Ujong Bukit, no longer exist. This is due to a river project and park construction.

There are two primary schools in Tamoi. These are Bendahara Lama Primary School and Haji Tarif Primary School. The schools share buildings with religious schools.

The Duli Pengiran Muda Mahkota Mosque serves Tamoi residents. It is a place for prayers and activities. Friday prayers are especially important here.

So, as we leave Tamoi Tengah, remember its story. It is a story of tradition adapting to modern times. It reflects the spirit of Brunei itself. A blend of old and new. A unique place on the water.
