UNETI was established on September 11 2007. This followed Decision No 1206/Q\u0110-TTg by the Prime Minister. Before UNETI, it was the College of Economic and Technical Industry I. That college was established in 1956. It was known as Technical School III.

An independent dormitory is also in M\u1ef9 Xá, Nam \u0110\u1ecbnh.

For example, students may need a minimum grade in English. UNETI also offers scholarships. These encourage talented students and support learning.
