Since 1908 this monument has stood here. It commemorates a man who shaped this region. Ernst Leberecht Hugo Georg Colmar Stubenrauch was born in 1853. He died in 1909. He significantly promoted the construction of the Teltow Canal.
Stubenrauch was district administrator of the Teltow district. It was located south of Berlin. He served from 1885 to 1908. After that he became police president of Berlin. Streets, bridges, and memorials in Berlin and the surrounding area commemorate him. He is remembered as a dynamic district administrator. He is also remembered as the creator of the Teltow Canal.

After the war, Stubenrauch studied law. He attended the universities of Gießen and Berlin. In 1885, he became district administrator of the Teltow district.

Under Stubenrauch’s leadership, infrastructure improved. The Teltow Canal was built between 1900 and 1906. The road network expanded. New hospitals opened in Zossen, Trebbin, and Mittenwalde. The Grunewald Tower also emerged during his tenure.
In 1900, Kaiser Wilhelm II raised Stubenrauch to hereditary nobility. In 1908, he became police president of Berlin. He died a year later during a spa treatment in Schierke.
Many places bear his name today. There is the Stubenrauch Bridge in Treptow-Köpenick. There is also the Stubenrauch Bridge in Tempelhof-Schöneberg. Several Stubenrauch hospitals exist. The Ernst-von-Stubenrauch-Grundschule in Teltow carries his name. The Ernst-von-Stubenrauch-Saal is in Teltow’s New Town Hall.
The city of Rixdorf named a street Harzer Straße. This was after Stubenrauch’s favorite vacation area. Other streets in the area are named after spas he liked. This shows the respect he gained as district administrator.
