This church, a cornerstone of the Galena Park community for over 90 years, has a story as vibrant as the lives it has touched. Galena Park Assembly of God Church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to the power of faith and community. It began in 1929, not within these walls, but in the homes and hearts of a few women yearning for a deeper connection with God. Their prayers, first whispered in living rooms and even a barber shop, soon grew into a chorus of faith. They acquired a tent, held a camp meeting, and witnessed countless souls embrace their faith. The Galena Park Assembly of God Church, initially called Assembly of God Pentecostal Church, officially took root in 1929. A new sanctuary and education building rose in 1962, marking a new chapter in the church’s growth. Rev. Vernon L. Guthrie arrived from Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1972, leading the congregation for an incredible 45 years. His focus on community outreach helped the church flourish. After his passing in 2008, his wife, Rev. Glenda Guthrie, took the helm, navigating the church through financial challenges and continuing the legacy of community engagement. Following Rev. Glenda Guthrie’s passing in 2018, Rev. Joe D. Fee III, a familiar face as the associate pastor, stepped up to guide the congregation. Today, Galena Park Assembly of God Church continues its mission of serving the community, embracing its motto, “We believe that people matter.” Whether you seek Sunday school, midweek services, youth groups, or simply a welcoming community, the Galena Park Assembly of God Church offers a place for everyone.
