Seven hectares of tranquility. That’s Parc Meudon-Meudonpark for you. Nestled between the urban heart of Neder-Over-Heembeek and its industrial quarter this park holds a fascinating history. It sits on the land once occupied by the Chateau de Meudon a grand estate.

The City of Brussels acquired part of this former estate in 1950. The park underwent a significant transformation in 1982. Today it offers a peaceful escape a green haven in the city’s bustling fabric.

Notice the striking red brick gate. It dates back to 1870. A relic of the chateau’s grandeur. Nearby stand 18th-century pavilions. They are currently undergoing classification. These structures stand as silent witnesses to the park’s rich past. They hint at a life of elegance and sophistication long before the park’s current form.

Think back to 1770. The Boonem couple built a new chateau here. An Italian-style mansion with a terraced garden overlooking the canal. Fountains once adorned the grounds. Today only the two entrance pavilions remain. They are a testament to the chateau’s former splendor.

The story of Parc Meudon-Meudonpark isn’t just about grand estates. It’s also about transformation. Industrialization changed the landscape. The chateau and its associated buildings were demolished. The ponds were filled in. Part of the park was swallowed by the expanding industrial zone.

But the story doesn’t end there. In 1982 the City of Brussels stepped in. They reclaimed the upper section of the former estate. They transformed it into the park you see today. Since 1997 Parc Meudon-Meudonpark enjoys protected status.

The park blends open spaces with wooded areas. It’s a carefully planned landscape. Meandering paths wind through the park. They lead past playful reliefs and dedicated recreational spaces.

Take a moment to appreciate the diversity. Notice the lawns the mature trees. The carefully placed shrubbery. Parc Meudon-Meudonpark is more than just a park. It’s a living testament to the past a place of beauty and tranquility. It’s a place to reflect on time’s relentless march. It’s a tribute to the enduring power of nature and the human spirit.
