In the heart of Bruzzano, a district of Milan, stands the Chiesa parrocchiale della Beata Vergine Assunta. This isn’t just another church. It’s a testament to time, a witness to centuries of history unfolding in this vibrant city. The first whispers of a church in Bruzzano date back to 1011. Imagine the changes this place has seen. By the 12th century, the church had risen to the status of a collegiata, a significant religious hub. The Chiesa parrocchiale della Beata Vergine Assunta even had a time as a pieve, likely established in the 13th century, overseeing 23 other churches in the region. Goffredo da Bussero’s “Liber notitiae sanctorum mediolani” documented this impressive network. The 16th century brought a Baroque makeover to the church, transforming its appearance. However, the winds of change kept blowing. In 1930, the vicariate foraneo of Bruzzano was dissolved, and the church became part of Milan’s Porta Urbana V. The old church, steeped in history, couldn’t contain the growing population. A new Chiesa parrocchiale della Beata Vergine Assunta was needed. Construction began on March 19, 1937. The Second World War cast a long shadow, slowing the progress. Finally, in 1957, the new church stood complete. More recently, in 1986, the church floor was renovated, and on January 11, 1998, a dedication ceremony marked another milestone in its long history.
