Casting a thoughtful gaze upwards, we find ourselves before Eine Frage der Haltung, a towering mural gracing a building in Berlin-Lichtenberg. This impressive artwork, created by the artist duo ZEBU, spans an incredible eleven stories. Eine Frage der Haltung translates to “A Question of Posture”. The mural was completed in September 2019 as part of the Lichtenberg Open Art project. Eine Frage der Haltung immediately sparks curiosity. The mural depicts a human figure balancing a delicate array of plants and animals native to Germany, all teetering precariously. Eine Frage der Haltung isn’t just a visual spectacle. It carries a powerful message about the biodiversity crisis. Each plant and animal featured is endangered, symbolizing the fragile balance between humanity and nature. ZEBU, the artistic minds behind Eine Frage der Haltung, consists of artists Lynn Lehmann and Dennis Gärnter. They met in Berlin’s graffiti and urban art scene and later formalized their collaboration during art school. This mural is a departure from their earlier work, which often focused on abandoned factories. Eine Frage der Haltung demonstrates their evolving style. The mural was created over three weeks in late summer 2019. The Stiftung Stadtkultur, which organized the Lichtenberg Open Art project, also hosted a series of community events related to the mural’s theme of biodiversity. These events included workshops, performances, and discussions, all designed to engage residents and visitors with the art and its message. Eine Frage der Haltung serves as a poignant reminder of our responsibility to protect our planet.
