These shops are leased to well-known retailers. You’ll find magnet tenants such as REWE Group, Media Markt, C&A, TK Maxx, and H&M. Karstadt department store was part of the center. However, it was owned by third parties.
Beyond retail, the Billstedt Center also features around 3500 square meters of residential and office space. It offers over 1500 parking spaces. This makes it easily accessible for shoppers and workers alike. Imagine the hustle and bustle. Up to 40000 customers visit the Billstedt Center every day. That’s because it is ideally situated between the local bus station, an underground train station, and the market square. Ten bus lines stop nearby.
The Billstedt Center is more than just a shopping destination. It’s a community hub. The ECE Projektmanagement GmbH estimates that the catchment area includes 985000 inhabitants. The integration of the “Billstedter Platz” in January 1995, an open shopping street was a turning point. This integration aimed to enhance the quality of Billstedt by offering a modern mix of businesses and improved architecture. This attracts both local and out-of-town visitors.
The Billstedt Center was modernized in January 1997. It reopened on September 4, 1997, with a broader range of businesses. Today, you’ll find specialist shops, department stores, service providers, and restaurants. The Karstadt department store closed its doors in the Billstedt Center on May 29, 2015. In December 2016, Primark opened its doors in the former Karstadt area. Following Primark, Müler, Cubus and Woolworth opened branches one after the other.
