“Ever wondered where Hanoi’s past intertwines with its present?” Let’s explore Phường Việt Hưng. This ward has a rich history and a vibrant community.

Phường Việt Hưng wasn’t always called that. Once, this land was part of Tổng Gia Thụy in Bắc Ninh province. That was before 1954. After the August Revolution in 1945, it was known as Bái Lâm Thượng.

In 1948, things changed again. The area merged with Mai Phúc, Sài Đồng, and Gia Thụy. It took the name Việt Hưng. This created a xã with seven villages. They were Lễ Mật, Trường Lâm, Kim Quan, Ô Cách, Gia Thụy, Mai Phúc, and Sài Đồng.

October 1954 marked a turning point. Hanoi was taken over. The city set up eight districts including four inner and four outer districts. Việt Hưng became a xã in quận VIII, an outer district of Hanoi.

Land reforms in late 1955 led to further changes. Việt Hưng then consisted of just four villages Lễ Mật, Trường Lâm, Kim Quan, and Ô Cách. The other three Gia Thụy, Mai Phúc, and Sài Đồng separated to form xã Tiến Bộ.

Fast forward to November 6, 2003. A government decree transformed xã Việt Hưng. It became phường Việt Hưng within Long Biên district. This change marked a new chapter in its story.

Phường Việt Hưng covers 383.44 hectares. In 2003, it had a population of 7,884 people. By 2022, the population had grown to 23,266 residents. That is a big jump in less than two decades.

The area’s history is rooted in three ancient villages. These are Trường Lâm, Kim Quan, and Lễ Mật. In 1943, Ô Cách village was added. It was also known as trại Quán Chuối.

Phường Việt Hưng is bordered by several other phường. To the east are Giang Biên and Phúc Lợi. To the west are Đức Giang and Gia Thụy. To the south are Phúc Đồng and Sài Đồng. To the north lies Đức Giang.

Several major roads run through Phường Việt Hưng. These include Đoàn Khuê, Phố Chu Huy Mân, and Trần Danh Tuyên. These routes connect the ward to the rest of Hanoi. Chu Huy Mân extends to Vĩnh Tuy Bridge. This provides easy access to Hoàng Mai and Hai Bà Trưng districts. It also offers a route into inner Hanoi.

Even though not directly within its boundaries, National Route 5 runs parallel to Phường Việt Hưng. Nội Bài Airport is about 25 km from the center of the ward. A car ride takes about 30 minutes via National Route 5 and Võ Nguyên Giáp.

Phường Việt Hưng stands as a testament to Hanoi’s evolving landscape. From ancient villages to a modern urban ward, its story reflects the dynamic changes of this capital city. As we conclude our visit, remember that every street here has a story etched in its very foundations.
