The act was meant to bring peace by dividing Ireland into two parts: Southern Ireland and Northern Ireland. However, it only deepened the existing divisions. This constituency, like the others laid out in the act, was used to elect members of the Second Dáil in 1921. In 1922, it was used to elect members of the Third Dáil. However, the story doesn’t end there. This place became a battleground for the Irish War of Independence. The British authorities often used it as a base for policing the area. This only fueled the conflict and made this place a symbol of the struggle for Irish independence.
