Originally meeting in a hall on Peach Street, the members purchased a building and began construction in 1921. However, they found themselves running short of funds. The church is a powerful reminder of the dedication of people who believed in their faith. One of the contributing members, Sister Janie Spears, even mortgaged her home to raise the money needed to complete the building. After years of dedication, the church was completed in 1921. From a small congregation of 59 people, New Saint John Missionary Baptist Church has grown and prospered, providing a spiritual haven for the community. Today, the church provides a wide range of ministries, including spiritual guidance, support groups, and even a tutoring program.
