Is this Klinge some kind of mythical creature? You might be surprised to learn that Klinge is actually a stream! It flows right here through Frankfurt (Oder) and it has a story to tell. This isn’t just any stream. The Klinge has a bit of a reputation for flooding when the water gets high. You see, the Klinge is fed by springs to the west of the city and flows into the River Oder. To tame its wild side, a pumping station was built ages ago, where the Klinge joins the Oder. It kept the water flowing smoothly. That old pump house still stands today, like a monument to the ingenuity of another time. Speaking of monuments, feast your eyes on that architectural gem over there. That building with the striking bay window decorated with fourteen coats of arms? That’s the “Wappenhaus”. And would you believe it, but the architect responsible for its construction in the 1920s was named Martin Kießling?! A happy coincidence, perhaps, given the Klinge connection? But back to the star of our show – the Klinge. Today, you can experience its beauty as it meanders alongside the Poetensteig path. It flows freely again, no longer confined by concrete, charming both residents and visitors with its natural beauty.
