Saint Pauls Presbyterian Church began humbly. Dr. George Butterfield organized a small Sunday school in 1910. The congregation quickly grew. Within months, they established a chapel in a storefront on Jefferson.

By 1931, Saint Pauls Presbyterian Church needed more space. A larger church was built. This accommodated the growing congregation. It also better served an evolving multi-racial community. The church was assigned outreach in Baldwin Hills. In February 1949, a groundbreaking ceremony marked a new chapter. The church found its current home. It is located on the corner of Coliseum and La Brea Avenue.

In May 2010, Saint Pauls Presbyterian Church celebrated its 100th anniversary. The celebration began with a festive “Homecoming Day”. It coincided with the observance of Pentecost. The Rev. Dr. Leon E. Fanniel, Pastor Emeritus, led the salute. He was very familiar with the church and community.

Dr. Fanniel had a long and distinguished career. He earned degrees from Huston-Tillotson College. He also studied at George Williams College and McCormick Theological Seminary. He became pastor of Saint Pauls Presbyterian Church in January 1975. After 21 years, he retired in 1997. He then served as an Adjunct Professor at San Francisco Theological Seminary.

Today, Saint Pauls Presbyterian Church continues its mission. Reverend Dr. Norman Bullock serves as the current pastor. LaNedra Munson is the church musician. Erika Jones is the administrative assistant. Karen Heads is the accountant. Veronica Casillas is the sexton.

Worship services are held on Sundays at 9:30 am. These services are available in-person and via Zoom. There is also a Wednesday telephone prayer service at 11 am.

Saint Pauls Presbyterian Church has weathered many challenges. It has also celebrated many triumphs. It stands as a testament to faith and community. It is a place where all are welcome to celebrate and praise God.
