Tragically, the Ghost bike – Meng Jin stands as a stark reminder of a life cut short. It memorializes Meng Jin, a 24-year-old Boston University graduate student from Shanghai. He was studying economics and had just started his program in September 2018. The Ghost bike – Meng Jin is located near the Museum of Science in Cambridge, marking the spot where Meng’s life ended in a collision with a dump truck. On that fateful Friday morning in November, both Meng and the truck driver were stopped at the intersection of Museum Way and Monsignor O’Brien Highway. Both were preparing to turn right onto Museum Way. As they began their turns, tragedy struck. Meng’s bicycle was hit by one of the truck’s tires. He was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital but was pronounced dead. The Ghost bike – Meng Jin serves as a poignant memorial to Meng and a sobering reminder of the need for bicycle safety. It’s a symbol of grief and a call for safer streets. The driver of the truck remained at the scene. No charges were filed immediately, pending the investigation by the State Police. The Ghost bike – Meng Jin stands as a testament to a young life full of promise, tragically extinguished too soon.
