Whispers of faith echo through the decades here at the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia. This church, nestled on Calle del Arroyo del Olivar, has witnessed 50 years of celebrations, prayers, and community. The Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia isn’t just a building. It’s a living testament to the faith and devotion of the people of Vallecas. In 2014, the community marked a significant milestone: the 50th anniversary of the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia’s creation. Each day of that commemorative week, a different priest who had served the parish over those five decades led the 19:30 mass. The celebrations culminated in a grand, solemn Eucharist led by the Episcopal Vicar, Pablo González. He was joined by the current parish priest and other priests who had served the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia. The spirit of celebration continues to thrive. Every year, the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia bursts into vibrant life for its patronal feast in honor of María, Mother of Mercy. The festivities span several days, filled with masses, floral offerings from various groups within the church community, and special events. One highlight is the Rosario de la Aurora, a dawn rosary, followed by a Eucharist and the traditional treat of chocolate con churros. Later, the community comes together for a paellada, a theatrical performance, and a solemn mass. The following day, a final Eucharist is held, followed by a shared meal where everyone contributes. These celebrations at the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia aren’t just religious observances. They are expressions of community, of shared faith, and of the enduring spirit of Vallecas.
