Truth. That’s the motto of St Mary’s Dominican High School. A motto whispered on these very grounds for over 160 years. Can you feel the weight of history here?

This isn’t just a school. It’s a legacy. Seven Dominican Sisters arrived in New Orleans in 1860. They were from Ireland. They answered a call to teach the children of Irish immigrants. They started St John the Baptist School for Girls. It became the New Orleans Female Dominican Academy. Then it moved to Greenville a village outside the city. The school later purchased the Mace Academy. It eventually became St Mary’s Dominican High School. The school moved to its current location in 1963. That was after a period of shared space with St Mary’s Dominican College. The college closed in 1984.

Think of the stories these walls have witnessed. The dedication of those first Sisters. The triumphs and challenges of generations of students. The evolution of the curriculum. From humanities and fine arts to a modern STEM program. St Mary’s Dominican High School was even named a National Blue Ribbon School. It received this honor in 1996. The school’s commitment to excellence has earned numerous accolades. It has consistently strived to provide top-quality education.

Imagine the echoes of laughter and learning. The quiet moments of prayer. The spirit of community that binds this place together. This is a school of excellence. A place where strong women are nurtured and shaped. A place where faith and reason meet. The legacy continues with the Dominican Veritas Ministries. It is a continuation of the school’s unique history. The school’s commitment to Veritas—Truth—remains. It remains a constant throughout its rich history.

Today St Mary’s Dominican High School continues to thrive. It embraces its history. It looks towards the future. It offers a unique educational experience. It continues the mission of educating young women. They are educated to become strong leaders. They are to become dedicated servers and curious learners. This school is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a living testament to the power of education. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of the Dominican Sisters. It is a testament to the countless lives it has touched. It stands as a beacon of truth. It remains a place where young women can find their voice.
