1906. Oklahoma. A young Charles B. King dreams of a life less ordinary. Now, here at the Colonel Charles B. King Plaque, we remember that life. The plaque, nestled at the intersection of Grenzweg and Jean-Sauer-Weg, commemorates this remarkable man. It stands as a testament to his dedication and sacrifice. The Colonel Charles B. King Plaque is more than just a bronze inscription on a granite base. It’s a portal to a story of courage and duty. King, born in 1906, graduated from West Point in 1928. His path led him to France during World War II. He served as Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, VII Corps. In 1944, while on a mission to interrogate German prisoners, he was tragically killed in action. King’s service did not go unnoticed. He was posthumously awarded the Legion of Merit. His dedication to duty, honor, and country is clearly stated on the back of the plaque. The plaque itself was dedicated in 1986, a lasting tribute to a fallen hero. Camp King, established in Oberursel, Germany, was named in his honor in 1946. So, as you stand before the Colonel Charles B. King Plaque, remember the man behind the name. Recall his commitment to service and the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country. His story, etched in bronze and stone, continues to inspire us today.
