You see it right in front of you: Irishtown Stadium. This place has quite a history. It was built in the 1950s and became a home ground for the football club Shelbourne FC. However, they only stayed for a season, in 1955-56. Irishtown Stadium then spent a few decades with little activity before receiving a much-needed renovation in 2004. It was thanks to the Dublin City Council, the Dublin Docklands Development Authority, and the National Lottery, that the stadium received the funding to be transformed into the sports facility it is today. These days you can find soccer, athletics, and even gyms within its walls. The stadium is home to three teams: St. Patrick’s CYFC, Liffey Wanderers FC, and Crusaders Athletics Club. Each team plays in the Leinster Senior League, which is a top league in Dublin. Besides its many sports and fitness facilities, Irishtown Stadium also houses a pavilion, a gym, and a track and field area. The stadium is, in fact, a center of Dublin’s sporting community – a place where many people come to play, train, and cheer on their favorite teams.
