What would you give for a steal on a waterfront property? During the 1920s, Clear Lake Shores was the place to be. Promoters were eager to sell land. They divided it into small tracts for a development they envisioned as “Clear Lake Shores”. Unfortunately, the Great Depression had other plans. Dreams of profit vanished and those waterfront properties were practically given away! The Houston Post even advertised the lots for a mere $69.50. It came with a six-month newspaper subscription. Some people recognized the incredible opportunity. They purchased lots and established summer homes. After World War II, Clear Lake Shores began to flourish. Water facilities were installed, attracting more permanent residents who sought a tranquil escape from city life. Clear Lake Shores officially incorporated in 1962. Today, it stands as a testament to resilience and the enduring allure of waterfront living. Clear Lake Shores proudly embraces its identity as the “Yachting Capital of Texas.” However, it will always remember its humble beginnings as a place of affordable dreams by the lake.
