What if I told you that here, on Kelly Street, stands a beacon of faith? Assembly Christian Church. It is more than just a building. It’s a testament to community, belief, and the enduring power of the spirit.
Assembly Christian Church is a place where people gather. They share their joys and burdens. It is a sanctuary in the heart of the Bronx. The church’s story is interwoven with the lives it has touched. It reflects a vision of unity and prayer.
The church changed its name. It was formerly the Italian Christian Church. Pastor Steve Bavaro envisioned Isaiah 56:7. “For My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” This vision led to the name Christian Assembly of the Bronx. It now reflects the church’s welcoming spirit.
Pastor Steve served as Senior Pastor. He took on the role in November 1998 after his father’s passing. He had a Master’s degree in counseling. He worked for the NYC Board of Education. He was a teacher and guidance counselor. He impacted many lives before becoming a pastor.
He loved music. You could hear him playing the trumpet at every service. Pastor Steve also served as a presbyter. He worked for the Eastern District of IFCA. This was formerly CCNA in 2003. He was promoted to Heaven on April 27, 2012.
Assembly Christian Church holds firm beliefs. They believe in the authority of the Old and New Testaments. These are the inspired word of God. They believe in the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are one God. They share the same nature and attributes.
The church believes man was created in God’s image. Man sinned and fell through disobedience. The entire human race shares this lost nature. They believe Jesus took the form of a man. He was born of a virgin and lived a sinless life. He retained His absolute deity. He was both very God and very man.
At Assembly Christian Church, worship is central. Services are held on Sundays at 11:15 AM. There is also a Kids’ Church at the same time. Prayer meetings take place on Tuesdays at 7:30 PM. These are in person. There is a Zoom option on the first Tuesday. On Wednesdays, there are more activities. Kids’ Church for ages 4-12 is at 8:00 PM.
